I’ve written a few previous posts on different types of half bras and described them in depth but I wanted to write something on styles that match different personalities that we may be comfortable with.

All women have different personalities that vary from shy to outgoing, not just in social aspects but also in intimate settings. The same goes for the choices in lingerie. Neither personality trait is better or worse, they simply are who they are. In light of this I’ve chosen three distinct styles of half bras to suit most women.

Sexy See Thru Bra

The see thru bras are half bras suited to the more reserved woman. She still wants to be desired and attractive but perhaps doesn’t want to shout it out to the world. The style of see thru bra I’m talking about is the sheer bra or lace bra. It can be full covering, ornate, supportive, but most of all comfortable to wear underneath everyday clothes. I believe most women would have at least one of these in their lingerie collection.

Vintage Bullet Bra

The bullet bras are a very unique type of bra suited to women with a very distinct taste in lingerie, perhaps even living a rather different or alternative lifestyle compared to the norm. Whether it be artists, vintage fashion enthusiasts, the fit and shape of a bullet bra and lingerie from a time gone by is nostalgic, feminine, and high quality.

Raunchy Quarter Cup Bra

Our last style of half bras is for the more adventurous women. You don’t have to be working in the adult industry to be wearing quarter cup bras, cupless bras, shelf bras, and open cup bras but they will definitely attract someone’s attention. Whether it be for a romantic night at home or for dancing on the pole in a club there are quality luxury quarter cup bras or raunchy lingerie costume sets for everyone’s taste.

Bullet Bra History through the Ages

Today the bullet bra isn’t seen very often. It has a very particular look and is therefore only sought after by a select group of women.

The bullet bra had its origins and its height of fame in the 1950′s. It was made popular by girls like Marilyn Monroe and other pin-up style females of its time.

The bullet bra is a full covering bra, unlike the other half bras discussed on this blog. It was however during its time considered to be shape enhancing and was the push up bra of its time. In the 1950’s the bullet bra was almost solely made from nylon or satin and it has distinct circular or cone shaped cups.

What is interesting about the bullet bra is that it does not have any padding or underwire like most push up bras these days. Instead the circular stitching and proper sizing made these bras fit perfectly on most women without needing extra padding or annoying underwire sticking into your ribs.

Some women did however decide to stuff the bullet bras just to fill out the rest of the cup and make them seem extra pointy.

The downfall of the bullet bra came during the 1960′s with the introduction of padded bras and underwire.

In recent times it has started gaining popularity again mostly thanks to Madonna who wore a Jean Paul Gaultier designed bullet bra during her 1990 tour. It was thought to be erotic and provoking even then, despite being decades after it’s birth.

The bullet bra has also become popular with burlesque and rockabilly enthusiasts, which both draw a lot of references from the 50′s.

Finding a bullet bra can be difficult as it is considered vintage lingerie now. There are a few companies around the world that still manufacture them, but otherwise search for bullet bras in vintage shops or on trading sites. A vintage bullet bra that has been taken care of will still be in good condition.

Be sure to check out the new videos that are at the end of this video (all clickable links that take you to other ‘see through’ videos (opens in new tabs) In this video I use: 1) A Sony DCR DVD200 Camcorder (has 0 lux nightshot) 2) An IR Pass filter (nm950) 3) My sister in law. In this video I use nightvision goggles to see through clothing. The nightvision goggles are called ‘spynet nightvision binoculars’ and they actually work pretty good for what is essentially a toy. The goggles have infrared light emitters that shine IR light onto the subject just like my camcorder does, but more IR light output. The IR light penetrates the fabric of the shirt and reflect off of her white bra and back into the sensor of the camera. The IR filter blocks 99% of the visible light which is why we don’t notice the pattern on her shirt when nightshot is on. It’s very important to use a 0 lux nightshot camera. The ‘low lux’ ones simply do not produce a good effect. The effect with the nightvision goggles isn’t nearly as good as the effect with a nightshot camcorder, possibly because the camcorder is more sensitive to IR light when in nightshot mode. This video addresses one of the problems you might run into when using the film/night vision DIY IR camera method. That problem is how to film in bright sunlight without the video being all washed out and void of any detail. One solution is to use the film canister method, which is really quite simple: 1) Get a hold of a film canister. If you don’t have one go to Walmart and ask someone at the photo lab for one. Get one with a black bottom and grey cover. You’ll only need the cover. 2) Drill a hole right in the center of the canister cover. You can experiment with the size of the hole, but 1/8 inch seems to work okay. 3) Place the canister cover over the lens of your video camera. This will fit very nicely over most of the slightly older models, and will be good enough on the newer ones. 4) When you look into the viewfinder/lcd display you will notice blackness surrounding a circular area where you are shooting at. Zoom in until there is no longer blackness in the corners. 5) You are now ready to shoot. Women wondering how to maintain great-looking breasts may now have more answers thanks to a new study of identical twin sisters. After controlling for genetic factors, investigators from University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland found that breastfeeding, daily moisturizing, and hormone replacement therapy significantly decelerate the perceived aging of breasts, whereas smoking, drinking alcohol, multiple pregnancies, higher body mass index (BMI), and larger bra and cup sizes contribute to accelerated breast aging. The full results of the study, Determinants of Breast Appearance and Aging in Twins, appear in the September issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

There appear to be several external factors that affect breast aging and appearance. The good news is that many of these factors can be controlled, said lead author Hooman T. Soltanian, MD, of University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Identical twin studies like this one are very valuable because they allow us to control for genetic influences. This allows us to more accurately assess the impact of external factors on breast aesthetics, such as environmental and lifestyle factors.

Funded by a grant from the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), the researchers recruited 161 pairs of identical female twins (mean age: 47.6 years) in 2009 and 2010 during the Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. Aesthetic breast features were subjectively rated in a blinded fashion by plastic surgery residents using standard medical photographs taken of the womens breasts. The ratings were analyzed against data on participants medical and personal histories to determine the significance of different external factors on breast appearance. The researchers found that, compared to their sibling counterparts, twins who moisturized their breasts daily had significantly fewer wrinkles in that area; those who received hormone replacement therapy after menopause had more attractive breast shape, size, projection, areolar shape, and areolar size; and those who breastfed had less attractive areolar size and shape, but better skin quality. Unattractive breast ratings were associated with higher BMI, greater number of pregnancies, larger cup sizes, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption.

Breast appearance is incredibly important for women. This study is significant because it clearly shows women what they can do right now to help slow the aging process and keep their breasts looking attractive, even without surgical intervention, said Foad Nahai, MD, Editor-in-Chief of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

The northeasterly died on the second run and the sea breeze could be seen encroaching from the right. Those like GER300 and SLO1, who were leading, sailed through the convergence with ease, but most of those astern were trapped for varying lengths of time in the zone of stagnant air between the two winds as the advancing sea breeze front, unable to cross the shore ahead, stalled. Those who attempted to go high towards the sea breeze in the old wind, like USA807 Hoeksema/Collins/Hoeksema and ARG 34 Busch/Noceti/Feldtmann, lost 10 or more boats, while others like USA842 Walker/Price/Standiford and GER267 Kochen/Bernd/Holl, who held low, below the worst of the convergence, gained an equal number. SLO1 won in the now well-developed sea breeze, but GER300 garnered another second. Norwegian, NOR133, held his second position, HUN1 fought his way up to 3rd, AUT117 was 4th, CAN848, 5th, ARG34 6th, and ARG32 7th.

Race #5 – Thursday – 8-12 kn. oscillating northeasterly – 40’-60’

The wind was again offshore, USA842 was again off from the port end in the lead, found the weather mark free of traffic, and led SLO1 down the run. But on the second beat the group of boats that followed SLO1 to the left – AUT 124 Franz team Schneeberger/Moser/Panek, GER300, and BRA68 – passed USA842 (who had taken the long tack to the right). On the final beat ARG34 moved into 5th and at the finish it was SLO1 (his second win), BRA68, GER300, AUT124, ARG34, USA842, and NED38 Bram Soethoudt/Figaroa/Verjeit in 7th, just ahead of the invading sea breeze.

Race #6 – Thursday – 10-12 knot secondary sea breeze – 275’-285’

Although the race committee waited until the sea breeze had spread across the beach and across the course before starting Race #6, the wind was full of holes, lumps, and 5-10 degree oscillations. Once again (as it had in the secondary sea breeze of the previous day) it paid to go left on the first beat and those that did rounded the weather mark in a back and an increase in velocity. ARG32 Ranault team found the speed and demonstrated the promise he had shown in the practice race, and led AUT117 around the weather mark and pulled steadily away. The first victory of the two-time World Champion (‘01 and ‘04) moved him into 4th place (where he had finished in a chartered boat in Marblehead in ‘02) with 29 pts. ahead of AUT117 whose second place had moved him into series 5th with 32 points, four ahead of BRA68, who finished 9th and took series 6th. But neither could catch HUN1 Hansgrohe-AIG-VIP team, who finished 6th and held series 3rd nor SLO1 who, with 19 points, 8 ahead of Gyenese and 10 ahead of Warburg, was second and virtually uncatchable. Roman Koch/Maxl Koch/Gregor Bornemann the big guys had his worst race, a third!, sealed his series victory and World Championship, and had no need to sail on the final day.

Race #7 – Friday – abandoned – 3-5 knot fluky sea breeze – 250’-270’

The final day dawned calm and only a light, shifty sea breeze appeared by noon. The fleet limped out for a 1:30PM start and waited for two hours in the patchy, shifting flow and a 3/4 kn. adverse current. The race committee, wisely recognizing that it was highly unlikely that any boat would reach the 1.5 mile distant weather mark in the 50 minute time limit and that the shifts made it impossible for them to set a fair course, abandoned the race at 3:30PM and sent us in to haul out and pack up. The previous day’s standings would decide the outcome, we had a complete series, and a champion who could not be beaten.

The top boats were typically about ten years old (but many were nearer twenty) using Curtis jibs and a variety of mains and spinnakers. Most were Borressens, but many were Abbotts. In the top half of the fleet were four Germans (placing from first to 19th), one Slovenian (2nd), two Hungarians (3rd and 10th), two Argentinians (4th and 8th), one Brazilian (6th), three Austrians (placing from 5th to 14th), three Americans (placing from 11th to 23rd), two Dutchman (13th and 20th), four Italians (placing from 15th to 24th), one Norwegian (17th), and one Canadian (18th).

These were all amateurs – the last pro, Sergei Pichugin, won the 2003 Worlds at Lake Balaton – and it is reassuring to see (now that the pros are gone) how many more boats are willing to attend a World Championship. Everyone enjoyed themselves, there were no protests and no requests for redress. The competition was undoubtedly not as good as it once was – but the infighting was as close as ever – and the big Guys – sailing at his best with the stimulation and support of success in the first race and in subsequent races (“Nothing succeeds like success!”) – would in this instance have given any of them a run for their money.

Forty-one percent of women don’t wear a sports bra when they exercise, a recent survey suggests. Nearly a quarter of these women claimed that their normal bra was supportive enough to play sports in. Women need to be aware of the impact that exercise can have on their breasts, with problems such as chafing and sagging breasts commonplace for those who choose not to wear a proper sports bra.

The survey, conducted on women aged 16-35 by sports bra retailer Move Active in January 2008, concludes that nearly twice as many women who currently exercise need to be wearing better protection when undertaking exercise. Wearing an ordinary bra when exercising is unlikely to encapsulate or compress the breasts enough to avoid premature sagging. Allowing the breasts to bounce too much during exercise often results in painful chafing and aching pains from the impact of the sport, and this can occur in practically any sport.

A further 16 percent of women who don’t wear sports bras during exercise claim not to be able to find any styles they like, with one survey reply stating “Sports bras are ugly”. Nineteen percent cited the fact that they only do gentle, low impact exercise as their reasoning, whilst 9 percent deemed sports bras too expensive.

Director John Cormack said, “Wearing a decent sports bra is the most important piece of sportswear a women can buy. There is no substitute. With many styles now available in high performance fabrics, sports bras are often machine washable and will dry quickly, allowing them to be worn again in a short space of time.” At around

SOL…Store of Lingerie announced today its October schedule of events honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its customers affected by the disease. The cornerstone of the month is SOLs 8th annual Bra Drive benefiting The Gathering Place. Although SOL collects gently used bras year-round, We do a big push for bras every October. Its the perfect opportunity for the women of Denver to benefit from a little fall cleaning of their lingerie drawers while making a difference for women in need within the community, says SOL co-owner Cindy Johnson.

Johnson learned of the dire need for bras at The Gathering Place when she dropped off a box of over 200 bras in 2004. I thought it would last them a year and was told they would all be gone in one day. I knew we could do more…and the Bra Drive was born, she says.

SOL designed a bra distribution center complete with fitting rooms at The Gathering Place facility. Once a month SOLs staff donates their time to provide bra fittings for the women of the shelter and distribute free bras. To date, more than 3,500 bras have been distributed. Earlier this year, SOL employee Krista Ashford applied for the Support 1000 grant and received over 55 hard-to-find sizes to add to The Gathering Place bra selection.

Take Shape Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale will host an event for Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day on October 21, 2012. BRA day was designated by the American Society of Plastic Surgery to promote patients’ knowledge of treatment options as covered by insurance.

Many realize that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But theres one part of the breast cancer experience many women know little about: breast reconstruction after a mastectomy.

Women are not well informed about reconstruction as they are overwhelmed when first diagnosed and are preoccupied with survival. Later however they often regret not knowing more about their options.

Unfortunately doctors often fail to inform their patients of alternatives available to them. Some dont think their patients should have the two surgeries at the same time. Some believe wrongly that recurrences of breast cancer cant be diagnosed if reconstruction is done. Some may be practicing in parts of the country where there are no plastic surgeons doing the complicated microsurgery. Some may be uninformed themselves.

During the last decade the innovations and improvements in treatment options have been profound.

As a result Take Shape Plastic Surgery, PA expanded their scope of reconstructive treatment, adding plastic and reconstructive surgeons, Christopher Low MD and George Dreszer MD. Together with Dr. Russell F. Sassani they provide the most advanced techniques in breast reconstruction in Broward County. Using autologous tissue reconstruction they can use the patient’s own tissue to achieve results that are more natural appearing without the difficulties that are sometimes associated with breast implants in South Florida.

Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction helps restore the natural appearance and feel of the breast. Performed by plastic reconstructive surgeons, these procedures can be performed immediately after the mastectomy or at a later date, referred to as delayed reconstruction. Each of the different reconstructive options have their own risk and benefit, and the patient and surgeon will decide which option works best. The current methods of breast restoration involve reconstruction utilizing the bodys own natural living tissue or using silicone or saline implants in Florida.

Despite the psychological and aesthetic benefit from breast reconstruction, fewer than 25% of women with insurance plans have post-mastectomy reconstruction in Florida. This number is even lower in those patients who are on Medicare or Medicaid, who are older and who are treated in rural non-academic settings. What many women dont know is that federal law requires insurance companies to cover all stages of reconstruction of the breast after mastectomy. Federal and state laws mandate as well that women have the option of surgery on the opposite breast to produce a symmetrical appearance. Many states are also passing legislation mandating physicians inform women of all their breast cancer treatment alternatives, including reconstruction.

Generally it is very valuable for cancer patients to connect with others who have had reconstruction to hear about their experiences and see real results instead of just looking at pictures.

The hope is that BRA Day USA will be a start for all women to get more and better information so that they can pursue better body image and quality of life.
